Sifnos, is known for its rich culinary tradition and offers several delicious local dishes. Some of the most popular ones include:

    • Revithada: A traditional chickpea stew cooked in a clay pot in a wood-fired oven for about 10h. It often includes onions, olive oil and bay leaves, creating a flavorful and hearty dish.
    • Mastello (Easter Goat or Lamb Stew): This is a slow-cooked lamb or goat dish, typically cooked in a sealed clay pot with red wine and dill, in a wood-fired oven. The result is tender, succulent meat with a rich flavor.
    • Kaparosalata: Labelled a salad but more like a dip, kaparosalata is made from the caper plants that grow wild all over Sifnos. It's made with capers, caramelized onions and herbs, and it's often served with bread.
    • Revithokeftedes (Fried Chickpea Balls): These chickpea croquettes are made from chickpeas, boiled potatoes, onions and fresh herbs (usually marjoram, parsley, dill and sometimes fresh mint)
  • Cheese

    • Manoura: It's salted and aged in sediment from red wine barrels, which give it a recognizable purple-brown exterior that’s also peppered with dried herbs. The longer it’s aged, the more bite it has. Manoura is crumbly and chalky, with slight tang from the goat’s milk.
    • Xinomizithra is a white, soft cheese, prepared without maturation in every household of Sifnos. In restaurants, you can try a Greek salad with xinomitzithra instead of feta cheese (as most locals prefer).
  • Sweets

    • Pasteli: A traditional sweet treat made with honey and sesame seeds. It's a popular dessert on the island.
    • Amygdalota (Sifnian Almond Biscuits). Many biscuits on Sifnos are made with almond flour, but these are a specialty. They're rolled to a round point with an indent at the bottom and are covered in sugar. They're wonderfully soft and taste mildly of marzipan.
    • Melopita (Sifnian Easter Honey Pie). It’s a light cake made from local honey and mizithra cheese. Melopita resembles a baked cheesecake without a base . It’s usually garnished with cinnamon.
    • Loli. Another special local pastry. It is a rich sweet pumpkin pie, made with yellow pumpkin and flavored with cinnamon, orange, clove, honey and raisins. A truly excellent dessert!
